The incident took place around 9:48 p.m., Thursday, June 18, in Fairfield County when the Bridgeport Emergency Operation Center received a report that a vehicle had crashed into the wall by the train station at the intersection of State Street and Water Street in Bridgeport, said Sgt. Gabe Meszaros.
The crash occurred when the driver of a 2012 Buick Verano, identified as Aisha S. Burnett, of Bridgeport, was traveling eastbound on State Street at a high rate of speed and she came to the intersection at State Street and Water Street continued straight without braking or turning and then crashed into the wall of the train station, Meszaros said.
Burnett was allegedly involved in another motor vehicle crash on State Street and Iranistan Avenue in which she allegedly rear-ended a vehicle then fled the scene, he added.
The victim's vehicle involved in the hit-and-run had the license plate fall off in the collision.
The plate got imbedded in Burnett's vehicle dislodging when she crashed into the wall by the train station and the license plate was found on the scene of the crash, police said.
Bridgeport Fire Department, AMR, and the Bridgeport Police Crash Investigation Unit responded to the scene.
Burnett was extricated and transported to Bridgeport Hospital for serious injuries and is listed in critical condition, Meszaros said.
Bridgeport Police Traffic Division Officer Keith Ruffin is leading the investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Bridgeport Police Traffic Division at 203-576-7640.
